Thanks for visiting my website, I hope you've enjoyed having a look around.
I live in Edinburgh, Scotland and photography is one of my greatest joys in life. I take on commissions from time to time, but for me, photography is a deeply personal thing and an incredible outlet for self expression and improved wellbeing. It's a pure joy and I love it :-)
My photos & films have been used widely, everywhere from the Discovery Channel, Harris Gin and numerous travel companies to information boards in Greyfriars Kirk in the Royal Mile. I don't enter many competitions, but I have been a Commended finalist in the Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year Competition three years running and was recently Expert Commended in the Amateur Photographer Magazine 'Christmas Cover' competition in November, 2019.
I sell images privately, but I make no apology for doing my own thing and not worrying about competitions or what other people think. It will always be a deeply personal and even spiritual creative passion, and my place of refuge when life just gets too much. It's a joy, an escape and freedom.
Photography has magical healing powers and is one of the best ways I know to improve your wellbeing and mental health. Whatever I'm going through in life, I always feel better after going on an adventure with my camera.
I shoot most of my photography in film or digital RAW and use Adobe Lightroom for editing. I have nothing against Photoshop, but have never felt the need for it. Generally, I do as little editing as possible, but I will occasionally go a little 'arty' which will be obvious to the viewer. I never add anything to my photos that wasn't there at the time I took them and, while I appreciate composite photography, it's not for me. I want my photos to reflect what I really saw and felt at the time, so I can look back on them and feel a real emotional connection to the time and place. My photos are very much a reflection of my personality and interests and it's lovely when other people enjoy them too. If you can't tell already, photography for me is all about emotion.
I only shoot within the UK, mainly Scotland and the city of London. Since 2015, I've chosen not to fly out of the UK to reduce my carbon footprint. This is really hard for me, as just like lots of other keen photographers, there's so much of the world I'm desperate to see. However, there's so much in Scotland and the rest of the UK to keep me busy that I think it's worth the sacrifice.
Three times Commended Finalist in the Scottish Landscape Photographer of The Year 2017, 2018 & 2019.
